Glistre

Works by Jo Isabel Klima
Presented at QCAD GRAD SHOW

Queensland Collage of Art
October 22 — 29, 2025

Glistre is a series of works which explores temporality and materiality through expanded painting and minimalist abstraction. Celebrating the quiet value of everyday observations of sunlight and the architectural environment in inner-city Brisbane, Jo transforms these observations into objects, expanding and extending their nature and lifespan. She is fascinated by the inherent qualities of natural light and how it changes through encounters with different materials like plexiglass and glass. At the same time, she is interested in the emotional resonance of these interactions, their ability to shift perception or mood. Each work offers viewers a moment of visual decompression, perceptual openness and an invitation to reflect on how our experience of light moving is our experience of living.

Process

These are just a small taste of some of the works I’ve been making. Each one is gradually assembled with various off cuts of acrylic and glass and other pieces that have been sitting in the studio just waiting to be used! Emily and I have found different ways to create links between our works with colour, materials and process, and there will be a few special collaborative works coming too!

It’s been a process-driven practice lately, with arranging and assembling feeling quite therapeutic.
