Jo Isabel Klima
An emerging contemporary artist based in Meanjin/Brisbane, focusing her artistic practice on expanded painting and abstraction.
Duo Exhibition
Jo Isabel Klima’s practice reflects a fascination with the inherent qualities of light and how this can be explored through materials like plexiglass and glass — focusing on their ability to transform light, shift perception, and evoke emotional resonance. Jo’s works embrace transparency, colour, pattern, diffusion and reflection to navigate the thresholds between presence and absence. Her practice celebrates the quiet value of everyday observations, transforming them into luminous moments that straddle the line between natural and architectural forms.
Jo is a Meanjin/Brisbane-based visual artist and designer with 20 years of experience in the design and print industry, founding The Darling Tree studio in 2008, and completing a Bachelor of Visual Art (Painting) in 2025. In February this year, Jo collaborated with Emily Devers to produce a new duo exhibition, EDGEWORK, shown at Field Trip Gallery. Recently, she has exhibited work in group shows at Side Gallery, Waiting Room Gallery, Vacant Assembly, Petrie Terrace Gallery, Griffith University and Brisbane Grammar School. Jo has also worked at the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art and was involved with creating exhibition branding and design. In the public art space, her artwork, Vibration Peregrination, was installed on a new commercial building in Fortitude Valley in early 2023.
